RAF SE5 EP McCudden wrote of the S.E.5 "It was very fine to be in a machine that was faster than the Huns, and to know that one could run away just as things got too hot." |

Our SE5 is ideal for a 600-700W brushless motor (more details will follow later). It comes complete with many nice scale touches such as the top wing mounted Lewis gun complete with Foster mount, or the fuselage mounted Vickers gun complete with crosshairs. How about the scale exhausts, the factory supplied rigging wires for absolute realism and the scale sprung undercarriage and wheels. Add to this the accurate structure with scale rib spacing and riblets then it soon becomes apparent that this model is in a class of its own. |

The S.E.5 was designed by Henry P. Folland, J. Kenworthy and Major F.W. Goodden of the Royal Aircraft Factory in Farnborough. It was built around the new 150 hp Hispano-Suiza V8 engine. The first of three prototypes flew on 22 November 1916. The S.E.5 was known in service as an exceptionally strong aircraft which could be dived at very high speed, only possible after changes to an initially weak wing structure culminating in the death of one of its designers due to failure during flight testing. |
