You had better start saving your pennies as the new Pantera Jet is due to land this Summer. With all the interest in this model so far they won't be in stock for long! The colour scheme shown above will not be the final production scheme, we're still deciding which one we all like. We originally designed the Pantera 4 years ago with the intention of developing a purpose built turbine trainer that was capable of growing with your ability. In this time it has evolved with new ideas and construction methods being implimented to create the perfect model for the enthusiast, whether they are new to jets or seasoned jockeys! A true all purpose model. We love the look of vintage jets from the 50's and 60's, the Pantera gives you the feel of nostalgia with aspects of The Phantom, Cougar and Gnat depending on which angle you view it. You really feel like you own a scale model but at a fraction of the cost. We are one of the only companies to utilise modern CAD design for our models, and the only factory to have not one but three CNC 3D rapid prototyping machines that ensure perfect symmetry and accuracy every time. Other factories still create their plugs and moulds by hand, allowing for innacuracies to creap in unnoticed. Our warbird and aerobatic aircraft have been dominant in their respective markets, now it's time to move onto jets! |

When we started to think about our first jet turbine we didn't want to follow the pack with another twin boom "Star Wars" styled model design. Instead we gained inspiration from the real world of classic jets that flew without the need for computer intervention, and were more akin to WW2 fighters than space ships, with their excellent low speed handling and flying characteristics perfect for model use. The current crop of twin boom jet designs that have a high tailplane do suffer from control blanketing if held at a high angle of attack, mainly noticeable during slow high alpha landings. As with all our designs we initally start with a 3 view drawing to decide the concept and layout. This also gives us chance to discuss any ideas or changes we may have before the project really gets started. Once happy with the initial drawings it then moves onto the CAD stage, again we study and make any changes that didn't become apparent in 2 dimensions. Once everyone is pleased with the final result the aircraft is ready to be modelled on the factories 3D rapid prototyping machines. |
In conjunction with Steve and Matt Bishop, well known UK jet show pilots and professional builders, the Pantera was designed from the outset to be used from your average grass flying site. Trailing link oleos soak up the bumps easily, and the large wheels ensure that you don't get bogged down in the dirt. High air intakes also ensure that debris kicked up from the front wheel doesn't get sucked into your precious jet engine. With a slow landing speed and powerful elevators you can be sure to get her down in the same space as your average large sports model. We have test flown two prototypes with different engine choices, both performed flawlessly. From the first flights of both models it was obvious that the Pantera was going to be something special. We will add more info as we get it! |

Steves Pantera prototype - P120 power |
|
Steve & Mat opted for a more powerful setup in their Pantera prototype. Their model is powered by a P120 which gives unlimited vertical performance and more! Initial test flights have shown just how stable and axial the Pantera is even with the more powerful setup, stripwide knife edge flight is effortless and she lands slowly with great authority from the controls. Steve & Mat will be demonstrating the Pantera at shows this Summer, be sure to catch what is destined to be some impressive flying from this father and son team. Test flight video below. |

Bobs Pantera prototype - Wren 54 power |
|
Bob Bloor, Top Gun 2000 winner in the jet section and all round jet expert opted for the standard Wren 54 in his Pantera prototype. This shaved 5lbs off the overall weight when compared to the more powerful model. Thrust is only 3lbs short of the all up weight so performance is still exhilerating. Bob said the test flight was a none event, and his verdict... a winner!
